A contrast between Laman and Nephi would allude to the epoch (late 18th century) when, by controlling Poland, the Swedish empire was nearly adjacent to Hungary. The Mormon books were apparently originally composed in Hungary at that time.

Laman

the partizans of Swedenborg (in Sweden) ["the skins of the Lamanites were dark" (Alma 3:6) might refer to Swedenborgians’ professing to have a secret doctrine]

Helaman

the Moravian brethren

LURam

the successors of Yis.h.aq LURia (Frankists in Poland) ["fallen by the sword" (Moroni 9:2) might imply ‘converted to other rite’

This use of names would be religious, rather than political.

If communicative relations among top leadership in religious organizations be intendedly described, then the "Mormon" writings may be disinformations intended to deceive possible government sponsored spying on the secret doings of the leaderships : to imply, falsely, that the relations among the leaderships were generally quite bad (the "Mormon" writings are full of descriptions of hostilities and strifes), lest (if the governments were not convinced of the bad relations) the governments might suspect those religious organizations of conspiring together to overthrow the governments.

"waters of RIPLIaNcum" (Ether 15:8)

It may have been after their re-location to Madagascar that diplomatic relations with states in Abyssinia may have become established by the pirates, resulting in advocacy of the historic hierarchy of the Coptic Church, thus :-
